Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) assessment is based on the personality theory of psychologist Carl Jung. He stated that “Much seemingly chance variation in human behavior is not due to chance; it is in fact the logical result of a few basic, observable preferences.” He developed dichotomies to measure these preferences. Between 1930's and 1940 the mother-daughter team of Isabelle Myers and Katherine Briggs-Myers developed an instrument of either/or questions to measure these preferences that Jung had identified.

MBTI is the most widely used personality assessment in the world. It has a proven record of reliability spanning more than 50 years, it offers a foundation for understanding individual differences and applying that understanding to the ways people think, communicate, and interact. The MBTI can set the stage for lifelong learning and development.

The MBTI assessment is used to develop individuals, teams, and organizations to meet today's challenges in such areas as communication, team building, leadership, and career management. Individuals and organizations, including many Fortune 500 companies, use the MBTI each year.
