Coaching

What is Coaching?
Coaching is an interactive process that helps individuals and organizations to develop more rapidly and produce more satisfying results. Coaches work with clients in all areas including business, career, finances, health and relationships. As a result of coaching, clients set better goals, take more action, make better decisions, and more fully use their natural strengths.

Who works with a Coach?
People who desire to reach their goals and/or enhance their development. Business owners, professionals and those undergoing life transitions may especially benefit from coaching. Since starting as a Job Coach in a vocational Rehabilitation Agency nine years ago, my motto has been that "Everyone could benefit from having their own coach." I believe that if you care about the quality and effectiveness of your life, you will benefit from having a trained professional's attention on a regular basis.

How do Coaches work?
Professional coaches are trained to listen and observe and to customize their approach to the individual client's needs. They believe that the client has their solutions within themselves. The coach's role is to utilize various skills and approaches in order to elicit clarity, strategies and goals from the client. While the coach also provides feedback and an objective perspective, the client is responsible for taking the steps to produce the results he or she desires.

How is coaching delivered?
Professional Coaching is typically delivered during regular telephone sessions. Climb Higher's most popular format consists of (3) 30-minute phone sessions per month.

How long do people continue in coaching?
Typically 3- 9 months.  Climb Higher recommends a 3-month commitment, but is open to other arrangements (including an "as needed" basis).

What is the difference between counseling and coaching?
Coaching is less time intensive and focuses more on outcomes. Although coaching may help a person become "unstuck" in their thinking or emotional responses, it is not meant to treat mental health problems. Coaching is not psychotherapy and therefore no time is spent on diagnosing or creating treatment plans based on mental health criteria. Coaching is based on the assumption that each person is capable and resourceful. If a coach is working with a client and it becomes apparent that mental health counseling is indicated, the coach will communicate this. Depending on a person's needs, it is possible for counseling and coaching to work well to complement each other.

My life is so busy, why should I add one more thing?
Investing just 20 minutes a week can save you time by increasing your awareness and commitment. Aren't you and your goals worth it?

How much does it cost?
The cost of coaching is determined individually by the coach and is typically set at a monthly fee of $150-$500.  Climb Higher offers an introductory package for $200 a month. This includes  3 (30 minute) phone sessions and an e-mail. The monthly fee is paid in advance for all sessions. Credit card payments can be made on this web site through paypal.  To get started (or to get more information) contact us or call 607-898-4126 to schedule a free half-hour phone session!

What if I try the sample call and decide I don't want coaching or might prefer to work with another coach?
There is no obligation or high-pressure sales pitch with the call. Quite frankly, we really want to work with individuals who are enthusiastic. Trying to convince someone that coaching is for him or her doesn't work.

What if I feel uncomfortable about calling?
It's perfectly normal to feel nervous about calling. It's always a little difficult to start something new - particularly something so important and personal. The feedback we hear is that people feel immediately at ease when they talk to a coach and realize that they are just another human being - a person who is really there for you and doesn't judge you.
