Life Coaching

"Whatever you can do, or think you can do, begin it! Boldness has genius, magic and power in it." - Goethe

"I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor." - Henry David Thoreau

"Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars." - Henry Van Dyke

Goals that you might have for life coaching:
  • Less stress and increased energy
  • Balancing work, family and self
  • Better relationships
  • Finding time for creative pursuits
  • Getting unstuck from situations of continuing conflict
  • Greater work satisfaction
  • Fulfilling a dream (such as writing a book or starting a business)
  • Solving a persistent problem or challenge
What to expect?

The coach will ask you questions designed to make you think and process things in a different way.
(Keep in mind that coaching is an interactive process with someone trained to really listen non-judgmentally and ask good questions designed to make you delve deeper. The questions listed below offer only a glimpse of what happens during a session. It's about much more than the questions.)

During the first session your coach will ask you questions such as:
  • What is motivating you to try coaching?
  • What matters most to you?
  • How would things be or feel different to you if this goal was achieved?
Subsequent sessions usually include identifying what's most important to cover that day, as well as reviewing the progress over the preceding week.
  • How did it go this past week with the goals you had set?
  • Did anything interfere? (if so, what?)
  • Shall we brainstorm together about strategies to try if that obstacle surfaces again?
  • So, what's most important to you today?
  • How do you wish this were different?
"It seemed like I had so many things going on in my life that I couldn't even get my mind to slow down and relax when I wanted it to. I decided to give coaching a try. My coach helped me to identify the things that were the most important to me. Then she asked me what would need to change in order to have more of those things in my life. Each week I decided on a couple small actions to take towards my goals. My coach helped me to get started and helped me to stay on track those first few months. When we reviewed my progress after three months, I realized that I had made some significant changes and that I was happier. I ended coaching at that time because I had reached my goal. Over the last two years I've reconnected with my coach occasionally when I found I was particularly stuck in reaching a goal. I find it always helps me to move forward!"
